PetPlus ("we", "our", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use the PetPlus mobile application ("App").

By using PetPlus, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.

Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account: PetPlus signs you in anonymously. We do not require or collect your email address, name, or phone number. Any display name you enter is stored locally on your device.
  • Pet Information: Information about your pets including names, species, breed, and photos. This information is stored locally on your device.
  • Usage Data: We collect anonymized information about how you use the App through Firebase Analytics. This includes features used, screen views, and app performance metrics.
  • Device Information: We collect device platform (iOS/Android), app version, and crash reports to improve app stability.
  • Biometric Data (Optional): If you enable biometric authentication (Face ID/Touch ID), biometric verification is performed by your device. We never receive or store your biometric data.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain the App functionality
  • To create and manage your user account
  • To store and display your pet information
  • To improve app performance and user experience
  • To detect and fix bugs through crash reporting
  • To send you important updates about the App (if you opt in to notifications)
  • To comply with legal obligations

We do NOT use your information for:
• Targeted advertising
• Selling or renting your data to third parties
• Marketing unrelated products or services

Data Storage and Security

PetPlus uses a local-first storage strategy to protect your privacy:

  • Pet Photos: Stored locally on your device in a secure directory. Photos are NOT automatically uploaded to our servers.
  • Pet Profiles: Stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. You control your data.
  • User Authentication: PetPlus uses Firebase Anonymous Authentication to secure your session. There is no password to store.
  • No Cloud Sync: This version of PetPlus does not sync your pet data to the cloud. Your records stay on your device.
  • Security Measures: We use industry-standard encryption, secure authentication, and regular security updates to protect your data.

While we implement strong security measures, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We share limited information with the following third-party services to provide app functionality:

  • Firebase (Google): For anonymous authentication and app analytics. Firebase is GDPR and CCPA compliant. Privacy policy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
  • Sentry: For crash reporting and error tracking. Only anonymized crash data is sent. Privacy policy: https://sentry.io/privacy

We do NOT:
• Sell your personal information to third parties
• Share your pet photos with anyone
• Share your personal information for marketing purposes
• Use your data for purposes beyond those stated in this policy

Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Update or correct your information in the App settings
  • Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data through Settings > Privacy & Data > Delete Account
  • Portability: Export your data in a machine-readable format (coming soon)
  • Opt-Out: Disable analytics and crash reporting (device settings)
  • Withdraw Consent: Revoke biometric authentication at any time

Note: Some data may be retained for legal compliance or legitimate business purposes, even after account deletion.

Children's Privacy

PetPlus is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete the information promptly.

Analytics and Tracking

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with the App. This helps us improve features and fix issues.

What we track:
• Screen views and feature usage (e.g., "user viewed pet profile")
• App performance metrics (e.g., load times, crashes)
• Device platform and app version

What we do NOT track:
• Personally identifiable information (PII)
• Pet names, breeds, or specific details
• Message content or private notes
• Precise location data

You can opt out of analytics by disabling tracking in your device settings (iOS: Settings > Privacy > Analytics; Android: Settings > Google > Ads).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of significant changes by:

  • Displaying a notice in the App
  • Sending an email notification (if you opted in)
  • Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy

Your continued use of the App after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services.

  • Account Data: Your anonymous account identifier is retained until you delete your data or uninstall the App
  • Pet Data: Stored locally on your device until you delete it
  • Analytics Data: Anonymized and retained for up to 26 months (Firebase default)
  • Crash Reports: Retained for up to 90 days (Sentry default)

After account deletion, some anonymized data may be retained for analytics and legal compliance.

International Data Transfers

PetPlus uses Firebase and Sentry, which may store data in various locations worldwide, including the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries outside your country of residence.

Firebase and Sentry comply with applicable data protection laws, including GDPR and CCPA, and use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
